Q

I've heard about this Q resto in Damosa Gateway a few months back, but as usual - due to the busy schedule, it's hard to find the time to go and visit this place. But! Finally, we manage to squeeze in a night  and try this place out. What is different about it??? - ENDLESS CHICKEN!!!

I've heard of endless rice, but not endless chicken! Nope, that's the first so far. But I must warn you the serving of endless chicken starts at 8pm! No Sooner.  And what's so nice about it it's not heavy on the pocket, only P 95.00, that's really a great deal!!!
....Well, if you are fond of eating chicken.

And how about the taste? I find it crispy and delicious!!

If you're allergic to chicken, they have other meals in the menu, but my HS friend love their crispy tenga!  And she order one for us! So we can sample this yummy treat.

What surprised me also, is one of the owners is actually the brother of my batchmate in HS, Mavi!

People really have great ideas!  You'll just be surprise with what they can come up with.

So just how much chicken can you eat in a night?  Wanna find out?

Q resto can be found at Damosa Gateway compound, fronting Coffee Dream. You can't miss it! Look for the "Q" sign!

Happy Eating!!!

Review : Neo*Davao A city arises!

Was doing my regular checking of emails when I found this link in one of the latest mailing list that am currently on, the MindanaoBloggers.com, and I didn’t even know I was on it, just found my inbox one day cluttered with emails from this mailing list. I don’t mind at all, since it has great links to some interesting websites.

Am always fond of visiting sites I haven’t seen before, and some websites can perk my interest at first glance, other times….well, takes a few more reading of their post.

This new blog - the Neo*Davao A City Arises! , totally catch my attention, aside from the  title heading which was nicely done, the content was not only informative, but the author delivers the information in a way that is not too boring - straight and concise, not peppered so much with one’s opinion(like mine?). The nice thing about it also is, it’s not cluttered with ads, everything has it’s place.

Neo*Davao tackles about the latest structures being done in the city, news on the IT happenings on the business side, IT entrepreneurship, a few places and events. And pictures! And for me that is important, pictures that is nicely taken makes reading more enjoyable, doesn’t it?  It helps the reader digest the information better than letting them visualize on their own. Kind of…a bit of a task, specially when reading about business and imagining….I’d prefer a few pictures.  I learned that a lot of buildings is to be constructed not only in the city proper but mind you, also in Samal Island! Really? That is a big step considering with what happened to Ekran resort, condominiums in Samal? It's a good news that people are still interested to invest in Samal. It’s hard to imagine a condo in the island, good thing there were pictures, so you get a little sneak preview. The site also gave me an idea as to where the Information Technology Parks are located in the city, which I have no news already for a few years.

Sometimes reading this things in the newspaper can be a boring task, it’s a good thing blogs became popular, reading business information and news is more interesting this way.

Neo*Davao, is a good site to go for information about the latest news on Davao’s infrastructure and IT happenings.

This is my very first review on a website, I wasn’t counting on doing this as this is something that I think should be left to the pros, but what the heck, this is just a shot in the dark for...

Baha sa Davao

Baha..... that word only strays frequently in Manila but never Davao. Unfortunately, that word finally landed in our doorstep. I can't remember when Davao started getting "baha", this year? Last year? .....

What I do remember was, driving along bankeron bridge(before it was under renovation) when rain hit and was quite surprise to see water flooding the streets.  And thinking to myself...

    "huh?? Na-a baha dire?"

I've been back in Davao for 11 years now,  and never had to worry about driving home when it rains. But nowadays, it's a different story. I have to make a mental note which streets to avoid and which street should I take in order to reach home without getting my car to swim. Makes you remember your younger days where you have a piece of paper with cartoon drawings and an instruction that say "Help {whoever the character is} reach point B from point A without getting caught. Like those table mats you get in restaurants to help you pass the time or to occupy the kids.

Wonder how did Davao ended up like this? Trees being cut down? Haven't anyone noticed that the Shrine hills is slowly showing less trees? Subdivisions appearing everywhere? Or we blame this to illegal logging? Is our drainage getting clogged? ...I can only speculate.

I do hope that Davao's future isn't that like of Manila, where you have to thread water along with the trash.

Annie Pie! Yummy Cinnamon!

The first time I saw this sign, I was itching to go inside and try one of their products!  Since I am a big fan of Cinnamon, ever since I tasted it as a kid. So finally, after months of waiting, I got the chance to go inside and try one of their cinnamons! And my oh my!!!  The taste is totally heavenly!!! Yum! Yum!

I only wish we were not in a hurry for an appointment, since my hubby wanted to eat it with coffee, as they also offer beverages and other food products aside from the cinnamons. We however had to "take out" our order.

This store opens at 10am and closes at 8pm. But the good news is the owners are thinking of converting this to a cafe soon, so they will be open a bit longer, am hoping till 12 midnight at least, so my hubby and I can go there after doing our chores at home, which is around 9pm.

If you have tasted the Cinnabon before, this product to my opinion is almost like eating one of the cinnamons from Cinnabon, or I dare say? .....  much better.

They have 3 stores as of the moment, find this along F. Torres, Ilustre and the one I went to is near the intersection for Ecoland terminal.

This is due to my excitement, I just had to take a couple more pictures.

The menu on their selections of available cinnamon flavors.

I recommend you try the classic. Though all of it taste good so far.

Well...if you are a fond of cinnamon that is. Hehehehe!!!!

They also have different variety of chocolate cakes, I ordered one, but so far for my taste, their cinnamon taste more heavenly than the chocolate cake I ordered.

One more thing, if you want your cinnamons hot and just out of the oven, go there at around 2 or 3pm.

And this is me, ordering as much as I could of their cinnamons!

Update 2012: Stores has already scattered in the City, there's one near Davao Doctor's College and one in Obrero.

Where I've Been In The Philippines!

Thanks to Ang Dabawenyo blog I got to try this map route as to how much of the Philippines have I travelled. And my score wasn't really that impressive, but thanks a lot to my college days, when I was still an active mountaineer, I got to see a few places in Luzon and Visayas. Then due to my previous work, I got to see the different farms of Stanfilco, in mindanao.  Plus my Ma who always made it a point that we travel to different places in the philippines once a year..... I at least got a C- grade in Lakbayan.

Looks like I still have a lot of places to go to in this country.

Originally posted in Multiply on Jul 12, 2007

That was my previous grade, this year 2012 it's:

My Lakbayan grade is D!

All About Coffee Shops

I love coffee, but not the brewed type. I know from my previous stay in Manila, that the people there are really into coffee, but lately Davao people is into this fad. And is sprouting coffee shops all over the place. So here are a few places I visited.

Blugre, as far as I know this is the first coffee shop in Davao. They are the first one's that educated Davao residence to the "Coffee culture". But this store's main product used to be T-shirts and pants, unfortunately their coffee sold more than the clothing line, so the clothing business was changed to a souvenir items instead, and Mugs was added in the novelty as well.

Which I think was a very good move on their part.

This company was established on June, 1998 by Gatchi and Larcy Gatchalian. The couple are Manilenos.  But transferred in Davao sometime ago in the mid 1990's. The couple was looking for a business to open, and came up with a clothing line with a coffee shop as an extra service to the customer. And the rest you know.

The food and drink are recipes of the wife. And the husband was the one who came up with durian flavored coffee, thus it was named gatchpuccino.

The company has garnered a few awards: National Shopper's Choice as "Best Coffee Shop in Davao" and Philippine Marketing Excellence Award as the "Most Outstanding Coffee Shop in Davao City for 2004".

Due to the success of Blugre, they now have a sister company - Kape't Pandesal in SM City Davao.

The three stores are located in Landco bldg., at the Pryce business park, Bajada. G-mall and the next one is in Matina Town Square.

They also offer wifi connection, if that is a must to you. To me, not really. I prefer to sip my drink and have small talks with friends.

Blugre, is one of my favorite places to hang out. If ever I am in a bad mood due to my boss at work or really depressed, I should have a glass of any kind of product from this coffee shop and a cake. And that really bounce me back to my happy self again.

And here's a very nice news! They are open for franchise outside of Davao. So those who are interested! Click here!

Update 2012: Blugre has already expanded and is available in almost all Malls in Davao.

Figaro, have been around in Davao for I think about 2 or 3 years now.... not sure.

However this is not Davao's homegrown, Figaro is a franchise from Manila. Their main product line is organic coffee, this is a 100% Filipino owned company. I hear they are planning to open more stores abroad.  This company started sometime in 1993 and has a sister company - Boyd’s Coffee Co.

I've gone only once in this store, since it's not 100% Davao homegrown, hehehe!!

First location is in Sales St. near Chimes, now they can be found in the Malls.

Coffee @ Yellow Hauz, this just opened sometime in 2006, the nice thing about this place is that, it looks exactly like a house, a yellow house that is.

Prices of their food and beverages are not so expensive, so it's a good place to go and enjoy your money's worth.

As for their sitting, there is a lot to choose from, you can sit in couches, just like in a living room and they have a few around, or if you prefer secluded nooks, they have that too. Or! There is the great outdoors, sitting under a canopy, just beside the house. It's a really cozy place.

And they are wifi ready.

This is owned by the two siblings - April Denise San Pedro and Alessandra San Pedro. You want to see more pictures? Click on this link .

This is located in V. Mapa St. near Mabini Street, it's very hard to miss, look for the house painted in yellow infront of.........I forgot the name of the church.

And this is Davao City's homegrown, so definitely, I'll be back.

Updates 2012: This is one of my favorite places to go, as the price is affordable and not too crowded.

Kasagingan, this coffee place is a treat. I totally love their outdoor sitting area, enclosed and surrounded with flowers, shrubs and what else? But a Saging tree! Great concept.

Just sitting under the canopy is such fun already. The place for me is really charming. And true to it's name, a lot of their dishes and drinks are banana inspired.

This is located along F. Torres St., fronting Davao Convention.  There's a big sign outside so you can't miss it.

And as for parking space, it's inside the entrance gate, you might miss this, since the gate is kinda small, but don't be deceive, there's a lot of space inside, or just go through the exit, there are still more parking space there.

By the way this is also Davao's homegrown. So you betcha I'll be back to this place and hang out from time to time.

And I urge you to read their posters, it will definitely give a smile on your face. They are also wifi ready.

As far as I know the owner is Mr. Lyndon Ong.

I can't believe it!

Was watching my favorite TV show, and I could not believe what I saw! Grey's Anatomy is using the equipment that we are a part of, in their show!

I just could not believe it!!!!

Imagine the grouling hours we are spending to run lots of protocols to make sure this equipment is functioning a 101% accurate. And to think were only a small part of that team.

I am quite aware of the responsibility but it's totally different seeing that equipment in action, even if it's only in a make believe world.

Awesome!

Hospitals and Memories...

The least favorite place for me is the hospital, it's never comfortable being in that place. Either you are there for a good news or a bad news. It's a place where a person is healed or a door way to the after life.

My least favorite memory is going there to assist a friend who is suffering from cancer. Or during the time when my Uncle was trying to recover from blood clots in his brain.

It is where I found my little sister one morning, huddled outside the room door, crying her heart out coz she couldn't handle the pressure anymore.

It is where I got the biggest fright of my life, when my Uncle couldn't breath and I had to rush to the nurse station to ask for help.

It is where I felt helplessness, when I stood at the bedside of a friend who just died....

But the hospital is also where I saw my Pa's weakest moment.... the hospital is where for the first time, my Pa talked to me from his heart.

It is also the place where I saw my bestfriends first baby. And felt so much hope.

This one place, where our greatest fear is realized and our rare miracles happen. Where the life and death happens every single day.............

This one place that makes us realize our mortality..............

This one place that makes us realize......this is life.

Red Knight Garden

8th Street, Guadalupe Village, Lanang, Davao City
A restaurant tuck away in Guadalupe Village.

The first time I heard about it, I thought it's just a small restaurant. But when I got there, whoa! The restaurant is only a small portion, this place is actually an apartelle, it has a swimming pool, a small garden and lots of room. I thought it was a new establishment, but it's not.

After a small chit chat with the waitress, we were informed that most of the people who are occupaying the rooms are largerly foreigners. They love the place coz it's a good place to relax, and away from the noise of the city life.

Browsing in their menu was such a treat also, aside from the Filipino dishes they also have good selection of Scottish foods. As the owner is also a foreigner. The price is not so bad, they have food priced from 150 to 500, but believe me, it's worth it. The food taste so good and the serving is a lot, mind you. They also have a different kind of desserts, different kinds of pie with ice cream. That was a new one for me, so hubby and I went ahead and ordered one. Take a look:

Doesn't look quite impressive right? But if you take a slice of the pie and add the ice cream on top of it, yummy!!  You'd want a second serving of this stuff. hehehehe!

Davao really has good places to go to, tucked away in places you'd never thought. I'd recommend you visit their official webpage and get the info you want first hand -> Red Knight Garden

Or you can call them up at 2348899, they are open from 6:30 am to 10:30 pm. Enjoy!

And while browsing saw an interesting blog, so I'll try it out too, hehehehe! I dunno if this would merit a good approval from Davao Cuisine but it never hurts to try.

Adorable Miggy!

The latest addition to our family.

This was given to me by my sister-in-law, a show type pitbull. At first I was quite unsure if it is a good idea to keep him, I've seen his dad, and he is a huge dog. But when I held him, he's very sweet and loves to cuddle a lot. And he'll go wherever I go. It's like having a tail. Very adorable of him.  He's currently 3 months old now. And loves to run and play. My hubby worries over him more than I do. He's also a dog lover.

Miggy is already housebroken, goes to the CR if he want's to go wee wee or popo. I love keeping him in our room, but his about to start his training, so my hubby won't allow it for the moment. He said I can have Miggy back in our room once his a little bigger, so he won't get spoiled. That's why his a little sad in the picture, he wants to go inside the house. Poor Miggy.

As for pitbulls being scary dogs, hmm.........so far with Miggy I find him very sweet, even when we play tag, his still sweet. My hubby who's family been taking care of pitbulls says, they are sweet to their owners.

Did my own research online, I learned that pit bulls were bred as working dogs. They are also companion dogs. They prefer their human owner's quality time than socializing with other dogs. They were never bred to be aggresive towards humans. They have a tendency to be more aggresive towards a dog than to a human being.  As the breds specific work is control of other animals.

This type of dogs is also considered smart, they are a good judge of character and can tell if your a friend or foe through your actions.

----------------------

Starting August this year, I've noticed a lot of news lately on TV of pitbulls attacking human beings. That is really sad, people seems to have a lot of misconception about this breed.

* Please be warned, pitbulls are not good guard dogs, do not own a pitbull for this purpose, there are other breeds that you can find for this exact line of work.

* Give them ample exercise, big dogs have lots of energy, they need a let out. If you don't give them their required exercise, they became destructive, as they will sort to different ways.

* Play with your pet, a dog that is not happy, is easily annoyed and aggresive.

* Socialize your dog! If you want your pitbull to be friendly with other dogs and childred, train them.

* Let your pitbulls run from time to time . This is very important, find a place where you can let your dog lose and run as they like, make sure it's an enclosed space, this is not only a form of exercise to them, but they love to romp and play.

* Be the leader, pitbulls needs to know who is the leader. If they know that your not, I suggest you give up owning this breed.

Don't let kids smaller than their size near them, not until you have made the proper introductions, do not leave them alone either, anyone or anything smaller than them and the dog is not yet familiar, this is highly dangerous. Friendliness of the dog, will now depend on his social training. If your pitbull is not socialize well, I do not recommend letting kids play with the dog, keep him in his cage, not on leash.

* Feed your pitbulls properly. A hungry pitbull is dangerous, they will eat anything smaller than their size

If you wish to own a pitbull, I suggest doing research and reading first, before getting one.

Grey's Anatomy

This is one of my favorite show on TV. This scene is one of those episodes that keeps you on the edge of  your seat, the ending shocked me and made me cry, a lot. People go through a lot of emotion, and this show almost shows all of those. Working people facing the challenge thrown to them every single day, and they take it on with their heart and soul.

Reminiscing The Past....

This is the 2nd part of the honeymoon blog.

We arrived at Cebu by 6pm. I've been in this place several times, since my mom grew up here. So there was only one placed I wanted to go in Cebu, the Cebu port-where the MV Doulos was.

I remember going up this ship while I was just a kid, I was kinder, I think. This is where I got my first paperdolls. And to be up here again after how many years is a real treat.

Imagine, the first time I was up the ship I was only a kid and going with my parents.
Now, I was up the ship with my husband.

My husband also remembers being in Doulos during his younger years. His parents also brought him there. So we had quite a story while going up the ship, and tracking back our footsteps during the time we were just kids touring the ship.

The MV Doulos docks in Manila and Cebu only. They use to dock in Davao, but my Pa told me that the last time they were in Davao, there was a threat to bomb the ship. I dunno if that is true. But since then they have not docked at Davao port.

The ship is the world's oldest active ocean-faring passenger ship(according to Guinness Book of World Records), which was built in 1914, she was first a freighter during world war II, then a passenger ship, in 1959 she became a cruise liner. On 1977 she was acquired by the German Charity (Good books for All) and was renamed to Doulos.

After the success of Doulos, a second ship was commissioned, the MV Logos.

MV Logos route does not include Asia, I think, so far I haven't heard any news about that ship docking in the philippines. Anyways you can view their official site, at Doulos and Logos.

We bought a few books and tapes while we were there.

Neneng a friend of my husband met us at the ship, and she was kind enough to tour us around Cebu, she took us to places I haven't seen for quite awhile like the IT hub of Cebu, that was something else, the lights and sounds was totally like that of Makati. And this section is almost up 24 hours a day as call centers is also a major hit in this city. See a few photos in this link.

Then stopping at Banilad Town Center, we walk around to see Cebu's night life.

By 1:00 in the morning, it was time to retire for the night. But as our hotel was totally something else, I asked my husband that we tour the place a bit. And tour I did. Just take a look at the pictures!

Outside view of the Hotel

Hotel Lobby

Hotel Restaurant Area

The room we were in

What really surprised me and my hubby is that, the price is affordable, a free breakfast and they have a service which will pick you up from the airport. Very convenient! The place reminds me of my ahia's in-law house in Alabang-Manila. The name is Europa Mansionette hotel, located at Mandaue City, they can be reached at 09278102747 or 032-511 1122.
