Speak

"Speak" base on the novel of the same title by Laurie Halse Anderson

A story about a girl who is struggling to come to terms with her inner demons, as she finally accept the reality of what has happened to her. A parents worst nightmare for a daughter.

And yet this kind of things still happens today.

And the painful truth is, the perpetrator is free, roaming the campus and is her ex-bff's boyfriend.

How does a person or a teen recover from the trauma?

A very good movie for your daughters to see.

Tim Tebow - NFL Rising Star!

Tim Tebow
NFL
Denver Broncos Quarterback

Anybody heard about this guy, coz he spent a lot of time in the Philippines during his childhood days, in fact he was born in Manila.

And just like Jeremy Lin of New York Nicks, he shares his faith with everyone and does not back down. His foundation is currently building a hospital in Davao, named Cure Hospital and their targeting to have this done by year 2013.

His a no none sense guy, but loves to win the football game and is a very good leader to his team mates.

His foundation can be found online and on facebook:
http://www.timtebowfoundation.org/

You can follow him online and also on facebook: http://www.timtebow.com/

Know more about him on the ESPN Year of the Quaterback documentary:

The Cure Hospital in the Philippines announced:

He has already appeared in the Nike commercial with Manny Pacquiao.

Take a look at some of the highlights of his play:

I wonder when he will visit the Philippines again, since he never forgets to visit the orphanage his father has setup in Surallah, South Cotabato.

Update for Y2013:
After the Broncos, he was traded to the New York Jets, unfortunately they didn't know what to do with him, they gave him little play time during the game, he was usually at the bench. Then they dropped him, though the New England Patriots pick him up, they also drop him, now his a free agent.

I do hope that a team will give him a chance.

In Memory of Slyme

He was my officemate, and we only saw each other once in a blue moon as we work homebase. The first time I met him he was all smiles and always have a joke to tell, he made me feel welcome and as if we've known each other for a long time, that is Slyvester Pinili.

As he was always sporting a smile, I never thought that he was feeling ill, so when I heard he was battling the big C, I was really shocked and worried. It was very encouraging to see how his friends, rallied behind him to support him not only morally but as financially as well. They did all they could, solicit, go to the government for support, held garage sales and ask anyone who knows where to buy the food supplements with discounts. We, his officemates, also was praying for him, visited him and gave financial support as much as we can. Even our bosses helped. We wanted him to make it. Everyone wanted to see him ok.  But it was not to be......much to our dismay, Slyme finally had to go.

We were off course saddened by the news, but after a while, we accepted it, knowing he is not in pain anymore.

To Slyme, thanks for the laughter, and the memory. You will forever be remembered.

The first day he was at the funeral parlor, we, his officemates went there to pay our respect.

Flowers started to pour in, thank you Vincent Pinili for posting the pictures.

He was also an avid fan of photography, so in his graduation picture, this was what defines him.
Thank you Song Hye-Kyo for posting these pictures.

This was his favorite cap, Slyme was never without a hat or cap, he always wear one and in a fashionable way too. That was one of his signature looks.

On October 28 they held a small program for him.

On October 29, a mass was held for him.

And his Department Manager gave a speech, in behalf of his Offsourcing family.
One of the best thing we remembered about him is, he was the first one who got the rookie award, as his dedication to his work was unquestionable and he always gave his 101% effort in his job, the US client was always happy with his work. Now our Bosses decided to rename the award as the Slyvester Pinili Award.

Saying goodbye....
his Mom

The letter for Slyme which the Offsourcing made, while he was still in the hospital, we sent him letters through that box....

Kaise Mujhe Tum Mil Gayi (How did you become mine)

Image from oneindia

Every time I listen to this song, a bitter sweet feeling would always wash over me.

How does it feel to lose the one who you believe you will spend the rest of your life with..... no words can ever describe the pain of losing a love one.

How does one go on living, waking up each day, knowing you won't see that person anymore.....

Knowing that, that person loved you will all of their heart, life and being.....

How long will the hurt linger in one's heart?

How long before a person can move on..........

,

To those people who is suffering from such heart ache, for whatever reason or from losing someone, I hope the song will give you that courage to let go, and be able to move on.

Shah Rukh Khan

This is the second guy I've seen from the Indian films, that is also a very very good actor. I was quite surprised to read that he had done more than 70 films! And his already 44 years old by now, but his still working 16 hours a day.

He views acting as his work, though he knows that he won't be there for long, but it is a good source to finance his dreams, he now owns a production company, Dreams Unlimited which was renamed to Red Chillies Entertainment. Aside from that he does TV host and endorse a lot of products.

What is also admirable about him is that he is a Muslim yet he only loves his one and only wife. He has no plans of adding another, and mind you, he does not have kissing scene in the films he has starred in because he does not want his kids asking him questions about not respecting his wife.  Aside from that, he believes that he owes the people his stardom, so he does not let it go to his head.

He is known as the "King of Bollywood" in India. And one of the King Khan's of India. Which they considered as one of the rich and powerful.

He was named by Newsweek Magazine as one of the 50 most powerful people in the world.
His net worth is considered $557.5 Million. Talk about a man who really works hard.

He also turned down slumdog millionare and 3 Idiots, which Aamir Khan did. As he believes not all roles are meant for him.

He is known as SRK, King Khan, and Badshah.

One of the nice things he said in an interview:  "Sex is not required to sell my film. My name is enough."

Now that is what you call making a film.

Here's a few excerpt from his interviews:

C: So your final message to women from 18 to 80...
SRK: I think you are the most beautiful thing God has made. Irrespective of what anyone says about you, or tries to demean you, just remember-and I truly believe this-god has made women in His image. I believe women are the most gentle, intelligent and sweet creatures ever created. Remember, there's no life without women.

- from lifestyle in MSN.com

SRK: "You know, it's so strange that I've done so many love stories, and all my co-actresses and all my friends and ladies, they say, 'Oh, you're so romantic.' I've never in my life been able to go and say hello to a girl at a party. The first person I said it to was my wife and I married her quickly."

SRK: One of Khan's big ambitions is to make a film that will cross over and satisfy audiences in both the West and India. "I'll keep tirelessly working towards that... I don't want to sell the poverty and the snake charmers of India. I want to sell the educated middle class of India. I want to tell them there's a lot of intelligence here, intellect here, rich here, happiness here, colourful culture here, and with due respect, we are not just some country, a Third World country. I don't want to sell the sadness of this country. I want to sell the happiness of the country."

- from BBC News Interview

What other people say about him:

Top Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra believes his popularity is partly explained by his humility. "There's a relatability to him," she says. "He's humble, and at the same time, he has the qualities that every mother would want in her child or every wife would want in her husband and every kid would want in her dad. He has all of those in him, so that makes him more than just this movie star who sings you incredible songs. It makes him a brand or a commodity which everyone relates to, and hence why he has become more than just a movie star."

- From BBC News Interview

Aamir Khan

The first time I saw this guy was in the movie the 3 Idiots, it was my first time to watch an Indian Film. And to my surprise it really was a fun movie to watch, I love the characters and the story line.

My husband and I have been watching again and again, specially on the weekends. And my little daughter has learned a few indian words.

This guys is known for his perfectionism, so when we saw the movie he produced and acted in Taare Zameen Par, again he never fails to make us laugh, but the touching story always made me cry at the end of the film, even after watching it for so many times now.

It surprises me to see that their cinematography is far better than ours, and specially the story lines in his movies, it varies and the plots are good. So I guess it's not a surprise to see his films garnered awards. He is the first india actor to establish his name in the Hindi cinema, not only that but as a director and producer as well.

Here is the 2 films I have watched so far:

3 Idiots

3 friends meets during their college years, Rancho the person who touch their life and given them the courage to pursue their dream, disappeared after their graduation day, after how many years they team up with another student who had a grudge against Rancho and the only one who knows his whereabouts begins their journey in finally learning who is Rancho.

This films encourages a person to think freely and not always follow the crowd even if it means standing up against the system.

To pursue excellence in life and success will follow you with it's pants down.

For me this is a 5 star rating.

Taare Zameen Par (Every Child is Special):

A very touching story about a boy who was misunderstood not only by his family but by society itself.

We sometimes overlooked the disability in our child as just being hard headed, refuse to listen and lack of discipline. But in order to help a child to survive in this world, we need to see and accept them for who they are. Not what they can become.

The key to a child success is the parents love, understanding, and an open mind to be able to see clearly the child's problem. And a teacher who have the heart to help.

Again, another 5 star rating.

Yogurt Galore

It's soooo nice know that finally! finally! Davao has different selection of yogurts! Before, the only way to eat yogurt in different variety is to go out of town or out of the country. So here are the few places I've gone to...

Blue Yogo:

They have a booth outlet at SM Davao. Near the carousel.
Selection is liquid yogurt only.
Price range from 60 to 100.

The flavor selection is not that many but enough to make you come back from time to time.

My favorite is the blueberry.

KFC Krushers:

This one everyone is familiar with. They only have 3 flavors I think for their yogurt drink. My favorite is strawberries.

Can be found in any KFC outlet.
Price: 60-70 (approx. )

Yogo!

This is the best yogurt outlet so far that I have found in Davao, but also the most expensive.

There's a wide selection to choose from, ice cream, tea, coffee, pancakes and a different type of mixes you can come up with.

Location: Gmall, near the cinemas and Coffee cat, near the convention center.
Price: Range from 80-100 up

Yogo is also owned by Coffee Cat. (If am not mistaken)

Ice Candy

It was so long ago, when I last ate Ice candy. After that incident with my Uncle I had never eaten one until last year(Sept. 22, 2009), when a colleague made one and offered it.

Uncle's favorite snack is ice candy, he was fond of buying in the sari sari store just around the corner of the house. I don't know what flavor though, but he was the one who introduced it to me when I was just a kid.

Unfortunately after his high blood attack, his first and the only one he survived, the doctor advise us to keep his intake clean, as his immune system was down. So Papa told us not to buy him any in the sari sari store. If he only knew how hard it was to say "not allowed" or "bawal" to an old men. The memory.....still breaks my heart even now.

It was my turn to take care of him that day, since my shobe and I took turns to watch over him and feed him. It was in the middle of the afternoon, when he asked me to go buy him an ice candy. I signed to him that it was not allowed, he keep insisting, I thought he didn't understand me so I wrote it down. That got him mad, and he demanded that I buy him one. I again signed to him, it lasted awhile before Uncle finally change a different course. Never in my wildest guess would he do that....

Uncle is a proud man, and even when he was wrong, he would not apologize. He was very strict and nobody argues with him.

So when he begged me. Begged me to buy an ice candy for an old man. That shocked me, and I will never forget the face he showed me that day....nor the hand that he held out..... begging.

I held back my tears.....sat down beside his bed and told him while I was signing...I told him " '伯伯, 我將做 ice candy. 明天,我將給它您。好吗?" (Uncle, I will make ice candy. Tomorrow, I will give it to you, ok?) and he turned his back.

I made Uncle ice candy right away, although I didn't know how to make the one's like those in the sari sari store, I knew I had to try.

The following day I gave it to him, he ate it and complained it wasn't soft like that from the sari sari store. And instructed me to include "gaw gaw" next time. I just nodded and smiled.

On January 2002, uncle passed away.... and I had never eaten an ice candy, till now.....

First visit at the beach and Emars

Just this tuesday, I decided to take her to the beach, not to go swimming but just so she would be expose to the air, since she's been having colds and cough too often already. She gets it from playing with her cousins.   =)

And her pedia is not happy with it already.

Since we're near times beach, I decided to go there. Went there around 2PM. Was thinking of going to Lisa's, but decided against it. There wasn't much space for Nikky to move around. So I drove a little farther. Finally got to the place where Kanaway used to be, and surprise! surprise! A new Restaurant and Resort was constructed there. I asked the guard if they were open and he said yes, unfortunately since it was in the afternoon, it was low tide and no chance for Nikky to wade in the beach's shore. But there was enough room for her to play. Yey!

This was taken at the side of the restaurant where the gate going to the beach is located, they are still constructing the swimming pool they said it'll be finish this year. Am looking forward to that, so nikky can swim and be exposed to the beach air from time to time.

Their food taste good, and I love their blueberry shake. Yummy! hehehehe!!!

So here is Nikky, had to content herself playing with the gravel and stones.

But she doesn't seem to mind at all. She still had lots of fun. Hehehe!!!

By the way, their restaurant is equipped with Wifi already for people who can't live without internet access.

Here's a link to their calling card and a few picture of the place.  Sorry was too busy playing with nikky forgot to take pictures of the place. But will post it here if I get another chance.

Emars' Calling card.

DMSF Hospital

I like this hospital a lot, especially their ICU unit. When my father-in-law was admitted here in the ICU, he was placed in a room with sliding doors to be isolated from the rest of the patients, the place was really clean. There was a nurse and doctor attending to him always. Which to my opinion is important specially to an ICU section patient.

The billing section was ok not really fast, but they were quite helpful in filling your philhealth.

The doctor and nurses were quite polite and kind in dealing with him and talking to us.

I also am very thankful for his doctor who really considered how, we, the family felt and patiently explain to us what was our option, and what would happen.

The hospital's Emergency Room is already airconditioned. And the best part? Their CR's are well kept, it's not dirty or yucky at all. Their parking space is quite big they have the front, sides and back for this.

I wish I had gone there to give birth to Nikky. Hehehehe!!!  It's really clean and the people are quite polite even the security guards.

Here we were making sure the kids was distracted while father-in-law was being admitted:

Nikky with Dada after eating some sandwiches.
Little gurl with Tita Kelly

And this is cousin Gabe
finally with Mama

Here's a link to some nice pictures of the hospital:

The Devil & the Duck

Image from Dan Magee

There was a little boy visiting his grandparents on their farm..

He was given a slingshot to play with out in the woods.

He practiced in the woods; but he could never hit the target.
Getting a little discouraged, he headed back for dinner.

As he was walking back he saw Grandma's pet duck.
Just out of impulse, he let the slingshot fly, hit the duck square in
the head and killed it. He was shocked and grieved!

In a panic, he hid the dead duck in the wood pile; only to see his
Sister watching! Sally had seen it all, but she said nothing.

After lunch the next day Grandma said, 'Sally, let's wash the dishes'
But Sally said, 'Grandma, Johnny told me he wanted to help in the kitchen.'
Then she whispered to him, "Remember the duck?'
So Johnny did the dishes.

Later that day, Grandpa asked if the children wanted to go fishing and
Grandma said, 'I'm sorry but I need Sally to help make supper.'
Sally just smiled and said, 'well that's all right because Johnny told
me he wanted to help?
She whispered again, 'Remember the duck?' So Sally went fishing and
Johnny stayed to help.

After several days of Johnny doing both his chores and Sally's; he
finally couldn't stand it any longer.

He came to Grandma and confessed that he had killed the duck.

Grandma knelt down, gave him a hug and said, 'Sweetheart, I know. You
see, I was standing at the window and I saw the whole thing, but
because I love you, I forgave you. I was just wondering how long you
would let Sally make a slave of you.'

Thought for the day and every day thereafter:

Whatever is in your past, whatever you have done... And the devil
keeps throwing it up in your face (lying, cheating, debt, fear, bad
habits, hatred, anger, bitterness, etc.)....whatever it is...You need
to know that:
God was standing at the window and He saw the whole thing.

He has seen your whole life... He wants you to know that He loves you
and that you are forgiven. He's just wondering how long you will let
the devil make a slave of you.

The great thing about God is that when you ask for forgiveness; He not
only forgives you, but He forgets.

It is by God's grace and mercy that we are saved.

Go ahead and make the difference in someone's life today.

When Jesus died on the cross; he was thinking of you!
