Honeymoon gateway....

.

The trip was definitely a good relaxation for the two of us.

In order to enjoy the first day, we took the first flight of Cebu Pacific for Davao to Cebu route and that meant waking up at 4 in the morning, to make the 6:30 flight. When we got to the airport, I was quite surprise at how tight the security was, we had to take off our shoes, eyeglasses, watch, even cellphones, coins keys and anything that will trip off the alarm in the walk through metal detector door. And absolutely no liquid of any type in the hand carry bags. Also take note, no ID, no entry for the passengers. Wheew!

The small plane for Caticlan was definitely one of the memorable moments. Harry didn’t like the size of it and asked me once if it was safe enough, I wasn’t that sure but since there were a lot of foreigners going in that flight, I figured it’s safe enough. The plane was indeed small, can accommodate about 20 something people, I usually sleep during flights, but this time, as it was my first time to ride such a small plane, I couldn’t sleep, I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t worried. But the view also fascinated me, the plane was only just above the clouds, and most of the time I could see the islands we passed by. Definitely a beautiful sight to see.

The Caticlan airport is quite small, services were a bit primitive, and the climate is definitely hot. Kind of like that of Gensan.

The boat trip from Caticlan to Boracay island was short and pleasant. Navigating to the island towards the beach, reminded me a lot of Paradise in Davao. As we pass through big hotels, I was quite taken aback when we reached the beachfront. It was totally something I’ve never seen before. The beachfront was like a busy city street, structures were built closed together and vendors are everywhere. Wow! It’s like being transported to another country.People were walking around in their swimwear, or wearing short and spaghetti straps blouses. Would you believe there are braids services to be found everywhere? Braids?

We were informed that our hotel is located at Station 2, which they say is the place were the party is always happening. Anyways, the Boracay beachfront was split to 3 names, station 1, station 2 and station 3. Station 1 is a bit classy, most of the hotel build fences in their property, station 2 however has no fences, and you can go in and out of buildings as you wish, this is where the D Mall is also located, where you can find, shops of different varieties for your souvenirs, salons for spa and massage, lots of restaurants(which ranges from classy to middle class budget), a wall you can climb, and best of all a convenience store!

Station 3 however is a little different, everything here is affordable(well that is according to their standard) for me it wasn't, still a bit expensive. This is where the small boats docks.

Fascinating souvenir for me, off course, is the painted T-shirt(which is quite expensive) and little bottles filled with sand which spells boracay. They have lots of pearls and jewellery shells but that is common in Davao, where I am from.

There are a different activities to be done in the island, but the most fun for me is the ATV! Driving the ATV around the island is totally awesome, especially when going off road!!! Sorry not much picture as we were busy driving around the island.

Mt. Luho is also a good place to go, you get to see the whole island!

There are a lot of places where you can eat delicious meals, but we found a Swiss restaurant that cooks really fast and the food taste totally heavenly. The name's Barracuda snack bar and it can be found at Station 2.

As I said in my previous blog, museum is a must for me. And we found the shell museum in Station 1, it’s a small one owned by the Tirol family(wonder if any relation with the Tirol’s in Davao). Pottery from China was dug up in their land, while they were constructing the hotel. A history of the family is also exhibited in that museum, aside from the shells that is found in the island, the family collection of Barbie dolls is also displayed, impressive.

Island hopping is one of the common activities in the island, it’s a good time to know other visitors and go snorkelling. The boat ride starts at 10 am and tour you end to end of the island. You also get to visit the neighboring island. The trip ends at 4pm.

And last but not the least, we manage to visit the butterfly park of Fairways and Bluewaters. It was a small place but was charming enough.

Do you know that Boracay already has a smokey mountain? We unfortunately got to pass by it, and this is a little gross, but I'll type it anyway. Boracay's beach front has a septic tank, which they treat at the back of the island, all human waste from the hotels and restaurants pass through this treatment plant.

A little trivia before I end my blog:

  • A Japanese discovered boracay beach.
  • The Japanese were the ones who placed electricity in that place.
  • Boracay electricity is hooked from Cebu.
  • The beachfront is 7 km long
  • Sand granules are different from station to station.

This a 2 part blog, as I still have the Cebu adventure to tackle in ending to our exciting honeymoon trip.
